Do it For You

This fall I started to listen to Rachel Hollis’ book and following her.  (Check her out) She speaks about a lot of good things; one being the importance of your physical environment.  She basically says the condition of your house affects your life style and success.  She is adamant in suggesting it’s not the fancy things or money, its merely the up keep of your house.  “Dude put on some music and clean your house” she said.

I have been a home owner for about 12 years, and this little mansion of ours is a cozy and provides a good sense of security.  While it’s far from being perfect, I know it is more than many have.  On most days if unexpected guests came by, I wouldn’t be ashamed to let them in.  My house is far from spotless, I could afford to vacuum more often, and let’s just say I have a room/closet the is a catch all and far from organized!  There are times house chores are pushed to the side.  I can’t be the only one that is not motivated to do these things? Right?!   I don’t even have any kids?!

There are plenty of things to get done around my house.  But my mind wanders, and I think I need a project.  I love the feeling of doing a DIY project and sense of accomplishment.  The scale of projects varies, once the creative juices flowin’ its game on.  I usually knock out one good size project a year and dabble in between to give myself a little pick me up.

I personally like to do things on the dime, but I’m ok with spending a little extra if its life changing.  I never knew what the love for spray paint was until I became a home owner.  You can re-purpose anything with a fresh coat of spray paint.  Oh, and if Home Goods was a person, they’d be my lover; LOVE that place!

Most recently, I was looking for something to fill the wall above my bed.  Who knew ceiling medallions could be a nice added touch?  These are the fancy pieces you can put around light fixtures or fans.  I’m certain you could find at thrift stores or garage sales, but I hit up Lowe’s and bought various sizes and designs along with spray paint! In no time I was ready to hang, quickly realizing I didn’t have enough to fill my space.  Back to the drawing board, which lead me to Hobby Lobby and with just enough spray paint I was ready to hang.  The finished product doesn’t look to shabby.  Nice contrast from the grey wall, I’m just hoping I securely hung them 😊   That would hurt!

In time I plan to share many of the projects already completed and future projects I’ll start.  Most of my DIY projects start with some type of story.  Some of which are pretty good!  While some, I just need a little extra purpose and personal achievement.  ‘Jess’ tell me what you think, should I have centered my grouping more or add to it?

Guess now I must get motivated to ‘put the music on and just clean’
